National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC) Meeting


Last week, I learned that the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC) is holding a public meeting on January 18-19, 2012 in Washington, D.C. to discuss various issues relating to national maritime security. NMSAC will meet on Wednesday January 18 from 9 am to 3 pm and on Thursday January 19 from 9 am to 12 pm.

Day 1's agenda will include discussion of the following topics:

  1. Recommendations regarding Maritime Domain Awareness and Information Sharing (i.e., enhancing information sharing between the maritime industry and the federal government);
  2. Recommendations on Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA)/Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) Harmonization efforts; and
  3. Update on the implementation of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program and the development of TWIC readers.

Day 2's agenda will include discussion of the following topics:

  1. Upcoming MTSA regulatory updates and actions;
  2. Update on the Global Supply Chain Security Initiative;
  3. Requirements for vessel guards while in port; and
  4. Underwater Terrorism Preparedness Program.
